NZ WEATHER

New Zealand’s 4 seasons

Throughout the country, New Zealand has 4 distinct seasons, making it a great destination for both summer and winter outdoor pursuits.

As you’d expect, most people choose to camp, hike and bike during summer – daylight hours are longer, the weather is warm and at its driest in most parts of the country.

Many people, including Kiwis, also enjoy camping, hiking and biking in autumn and spring. The nights can get chilly though, so you’ll need to be able to handle cooler temperatures and be well-equipped for changeable weather.

Adventure Capital has a range of packages available designed specifically for New Zealand conditions – we have selected camping and hiking equipment to suit summer, autumn and spring weather so you don’t have to worry about being caught out by unexpected conditions.

Exploring Auckland by bike is fun all year round (Auckland is one of the warmest parts of the country and does not experience snowfall even in the middle of winter).

Wellington and Christchurch do experience harsher winters, so if you are planning on experiencing a self-guided or guided bike tour in these centres, you will need to ensure you wear full length warm clothing, waterproofs and warm gloves that cover your fingers.

Guided bike tours will be cancelled in Wellington and Christchurch if weather limits are exceeded (the risk is higher in winter, of course). In these situations, customers will be fully refunded. In Auckland, we have never had to cancel a guided bike tour due to weather limits being exceeded at any time of the year.

Be aware…

During winter only serious, highly experienced outdoor adventurers head to the hills, mostly during mountain climbing excursions – in winter, our weather conditions can be treacherous so it always pays to go with experienced guides if you plan any winter outdoor pursuits.
